HDMI Motherboard Issue

The HDMI port on my Dell Latitude does not work.  When I called tech support I was told that this is likely a motherboard issue.  If that is the case it is too costly to replace the motherboard as my warranty has expired.  I have tried all the standard solutions but none has worked.  Can someone give me some more details about how easy it is to fix the motherboard problem?

Thanks

Ron

Latitude E5420

Hmm, replacing the motherboard is not an option.  So basically there is no solution.  Is there not a diagnostic to check this port?  It does not show up on the device manager.

What model system?  On most, the HDMI port is part of the mainboard -- which cannot be fixed short of a replacement.

The HDMI port doesn't use a driver other than the standard video driver, so it won't show up in the device manager.

Are the video drivers correctly installed?  Have you tried connecting more than one monitor and used more than one cable to rule out a bad cable or a bad monitor?

Yes the video drivers are correctly installed.  I have 2 brand new HDMI cables that I have tested.  The VGA port works on both the lap top and the HDTV.  I have tried both HDMI ports on the HDTV.  In both cases I get the no "video signal" message.  I am fairly certain that the HDMI port on the laptop is not powered up.  I have read that this is a known problem.  Normally when you activate the extended screen display the HDMI port should power up but it does not.

A better test would be to try an HDCP-compliant computer monitor -- if you don't have one, most computer shops should have one they'll let you try.

Good suggestion.  Will pursue this.  Thanks!
