Hard Drive Failed during diagnostic. Error Code 2000-0142

Dear forum / Dell support guru's,

Please help. I have just run a diagnostic on my broken Inspiron and have the following error message:

Notebook hard drives generally begin to fail in large numbers at around the 3 year mark --- the failure rate skyrockets from there and relatively few of them last five years.  So -- what you're seeing is well within the failure curve for drives.

Even retail drives rarely come with more than 3-year warranties (unless they're high performance, higher-cost drives where the manufacturer has built in a replacement allowance to the cost of the drive -- these sometimes carry 5-year warranties).

MY COMPUTER STOPPED WORKING. I AM NOT EVEN ABLE TO BOOT IT. WHEN I RAN DIAGNOSTIC TESTS IT SAID HARD DESK SELF CHECK FAILED. CAN YOU HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE

Hi,

I also have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that is out of warranty (by a few months) and a failed HDD drive as per the posts above (Error 2000-0142).

Could you tell me how I can get the specification for a replacement drive and how I might obtain one either- from Dell or one of its agents and delivered in the UK?

Any standard 2.5" SATA notebook drive (hard drive, hybrid drive or solid state drive) 7- or 9.5 mm height, will work.  Any computer shop or online store will have a workable replacement drive.

Hi my name is krystal lopez and I am experiencing the same problem as the one above... an error 2000-0142. I purchased my laptop from Dell about four years ago... Can you please get back to me asap if you can help me by checking into my product and what can be done to fix it!!! This computer has my whole life on it!!!
