Start with the Dell diagnostics - including an extended hard drive test. F12 at powerup.
Is it the one with the symptom tree test thingy? I remember running diagnostics and I keep getting errors when it's testing the hard drive. Should I get the error code? I'll try again cause I tried pressing F12 earlier and nothing happens for a few minutes and it goes to an error message.

Record the error and contact Dell - ask for a pre-imaged replacement drive.
