Sounds like your harddrive has died. You can try doing a repair using your recovery disk. Put the disk in the drive and boot the computer. At the Dell splash screen  tap the F12 key to access the boot menu. Select the on board CDROM. When loader loads select the option ot repair your system.

If that fails you will most likely need to get new drive and reload windows and your drivers.

I just had this happen to me after about a month's worth of idle. Here's what I did to get it back:

1.   Shut it down, gently flip it over and remove the battery.

2.   Remove single screw and slide the HHD holder (small edge trim with 2 mic/phone ports by door 'C') out of the laptop. Don't mess with the assembly like shake it or anything or try to remove it from the holder, just be gentle with it.

3.   I gently blew (puffed) into the laptop opening and used a clean really small paint brush to dust off both sides of the contacts at the end of the hard drive.

4.   I slide the HHD holder back in and secured the screw, not to tight. I reinstalled the battery.

5.   I plugged the laptop into the AC power supply and powered up.... and it rebooted as normal.

I hope you get yours back as easily as I did after my initial shock of WTF...
