Hard drive replacement twice on Inspiron 1545 why?

my son has used a 1545 for school which was purchased in 2010.  We replaced the hard drive in jan 2012.  Now I find the hard drive failed again and needs replacement.    Is that possible?  Hard drives fail that frequently?

It's possible - but did you clear the event log after you replaced the drive initially?  The error could point back to the initial failure - and not be a symptom of another drive that has failed.
