Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack Adaptor Audio Recording Problems

I have a Dell Latitude XT3 running Windows 7 - 64 Bit.

This model has the headphone/microphone combo jack which utilizes a TRRS 3.5MM plug.

I want to plug into a mono - 3.5MM audio output spliced from my CB radio speaker, and then connect to the computer and record the RX from the radio.  This type of combo jack does not seem to work for this application.  I tried using one splitter from Headset Buddy to no avail. (http://www.theheadsetbuddy.com/pc-computer-headset-to-3-5mm-smartphone-adapter/)  I plugged the split Microphone into both a stereo and mono plug and could not receive any recorded audio.

On a side note I have used both the sound recorder (windows based) and Camtasia (screen capture with audio) to try to record.

I have begun attempting to manufacture a TRRS 3.5MM male to Mono 3.5MM male cable myself; however at the moment that isn't quite working out.

My concern is that I just ordered an XPS15 which it appears will have the same jack, and thus I will have the same problem.

I have used an Alienware computer with a dedicated Microphone jack with no problems...

Thanks for any help or answers to my problems.
