Help when laptop is idle it makes a strange noise sounds like Hdd but it is not?

Basically I have an L702x and when I'm watching a movie or online streaming a video my laptop will make this strange noise (sounds like a hdd) but I don't think it is since I ran the diagnostic check by pressing F12 plus the noise isn't ongoing as it does it random times (lasting between 2-3 seconds).

When the fan is running the noise Doesn't seem to appear plus I can only describe the noise is if the hdd is spinning down. It happens when plugged in or on battery

Hi Brian30123,

Try removing optical drive and hard drive one by one to check which component is making noise.

You may use the manual mentioned below to remove the components:

Components which can make noise are:

1. Optical Drive
2. Hard Drive

Also, you may check the adapter as it may be the cause of the sound.

Thanks & Regards
