Help with E1505 static/popping

Recently my laptop starting making this static/popping noise in the left side of the keyboard area. My volume is muted and this isn't a constant problem as the popping comes and goes every few minutes. I haven't made any changes to the computer for a very long time, I think it was to upgrade to WMP 11. If there is anyone that knows how to fix this problem I would be so very grateful as this is the most annoying noise. Edit: I forgot to mention that my OS is XP media center. Also the popping tends to kick on whenever the fan starts to turn on to cool down the board.
