How can I force a BIOS re-flash?

I have an Vostro 1450, already at the latest available BIOS (A08).  I have a problem which might be fixed by re-flashing the BIOS.  However the BIOS upgrade utility (V1450A08.EXE)  detects that I'm already at the latest version and sensibly refuses to "update".  Is there a way I can force the upgrade utility to re-flash the BIOS?

Thanks for any help on this!

Hi,

After BIOS upgrade my system is continuously getting re-started with blue screen. The error is different on every SOD. I think my BIOS is not upgraded or flashed properly. So I need to re-flash it

I know re-flash can be done but don't know how to do it on vostro notebooks.

Can be done on Inspirons, got this link:- en.community.dell.com/.../19260157.aspx

Can you pls tell me how to do it with Vostro 1450

Hi ivikasrana,

Please elaborate the issue you are facing with your computer.

BIOS cannot be updated to the same version. If you have already installed the updated version, the utility may not let you re-flash the same.

Please reply with information.

Hi ivikasrana,

My apologies for delayed response.

Blue screen errors may be either due to issues with system hardware or the software (installed Operating system and applications). To ensure correct functionality of system hardware, you may run a diagnostic test on system hardware. For more detailed steps, you may refer to link: http://dell.to/OUGnqT

You may also check the system in safe mode and see if it exhibits the same behavior. You may also download an application 'Bluescreen view' to check the file that is causing this issue. You can download it from the link: http://bit.ly/QWjBig

Bluescreen View scans all your minidump files created during 'blue screen of death' crashes, and displays the information about all crashes in one table. You can view the details of the device drivers loaded during the crash in the lower pane. BlueScreenView also mark the drivers that their addresses found in the crash stack, so you can easily locate the suspected drivers that possibly caused the crash. Please let me know the file name causing this issue.

Usually BIOS cannot be updated to the same version and Dell does not recommend downgrading the system BIOS. As you want to install the same version again, you may try downgrading the system BIOS to previous version and then update it to A08 version (might work). You may install the previous version of sytsem BIOS (A07) from link: http://dell.to/VVVJv2  You may also refer to link: http://dell.to/REvyrF

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Please share the findings.
