How do I replace battery on system board

The battery on the system board has died, the battery appears to be soldered to the mother board. How should I proceed with replacing the battery?
I don't have any original documentation and I havent found anything on the dell web site that covers replacing the battery in this model (Inspiron 5000) or what type of battery I should replace it with.

I have taken the laptop apart and located the battery, but I need more information to replace it. I have found the following link that deals with everything but the internal battery.

If you are sure it is soldered and not in a socket, I myself would cut the battery leads loose from the mobo and then solder the replacement battery to the nubs left from cutting off the old battery.

afaik, dell laptops dont' have motherboard batteries- they use the full size batteries or AC power. if the laptop is left for a long time without either, it will reset the system clock. (I think it has a capacitor in it that it can draw from for short periods of time, so that the clock doesn't reset immediately if you take the batteries out.)

I could be wrong though.
