How to Identify motherboard

Hi,

I Have a Precision M6500 and a recent diagnostic by Dell suggested that I should update my BIOS revision from A07 to A10. So far so good.

I downloaded the correct BIOS file. I was hoping for an ISO file but was only able to downlaod an .exe file.

I tried to run it from Windows and received an error that the ROM image was not found, or something similar. I have since discovered that this is a problem when you have Windows 7 installed which I do. The suggestion was to create a bootable BIOS installation file on a USB stick. I found a good set of instructions to create one  and started on this solution. The two last steps are to copy my BIOS file and a flashfile file to the USB stick so I can use it to boot my laptop. The problem is, I can't find the flashfile anywhere. I have learned that you need to have the correct flashfile for your motherboard but before you can get that you need to know which motherboard you have.

Therein lies my problem: how can I see which motherboard I have? I tried system information on Windows search but all I can see is my computer model there, not my motherboard version and make. Any suggestions?

A07 can't be directly flashed to A10.  Install A08 first - then try.  If that doesn't work, flash A09 after A08 and then try A10.

A08 and A09 are under "other versions" above.

I just did this by updating A08 then A09 and finally A10.  It doesn't appear you can go straight from A07 to A10 by skipping A08 & A09.

Thanks!

Nope. And I have been overwhelmed with other things to try to dig into this deeper for the time being, so I am still stuck.
