How to Reload a corrupted BIOS.
Apparently a Faulty power cord has corrupted the BIOS or damaged the system board on an Inspiron 1420 Laptop. I can not locate documenttion for the the jumpers to reset the BIOS or the location of the BIOS chip on the motherboard to see if it is removable or replaceable with out soldering. The PC turns on flahes the HDD & CD/DVD lights but will not startup. I have read that there is a mechanism to reload the BIOS from a USB drive or CD but can't find the process to perform that operation. Removal and review of the HDD shows it its intact. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The BIOS chip is soldered to the mainboard. You have two options:
Replace the mainboard, or
Have a shop remove (unsolder) the chip, flash it externally (they will need a flash device) and resolder it.
The cost for the former will be in the $300-400 plus labor range. The latter will run about $200.
www.aqstech.com is one shop that can do the removal/flash/resoldering.

Thanks your for the Reply. Unfortunately my keyboard sticks, causing the spacing issue, and seems to miss key entries. The forum does not alow editing once submitted/entered and did not want to delete and re-enter.. And since I was a new user I just found the edit function and have corrected the initial post.
I tried to look up your word 'begine' but could not find its definition. No need to respond since I will most likely ignore your post going forward. I received the required information in the first reply.

Thank You for the information. The third option is a repacement PC. Since it could be the motherboard that is defective.

There is one other option you con consider. Buy a defective 1420 off of eBay; then R&R teh motheboard or BIOS chip.
There's one on there right now that's being sold for parts. Seller claims that it has a cracked LCD and does not power on. Willing to accept offer.
Item number 380218723677.
