I may have replied too soon. I am noticing different versions of MediaDirect. Yours may be different than my, so my response my not help.

First off, this Dell MediaDirect button (when pressed for two seconds) can be used to turn on the computer and go directly into Dell Media Experience -OR- it will go into Dell Media Experience when the computer is already on. Which is your problem..turning on the computer, or going into Dell Media Experience when the computer is already on..or both?

Secondly, he shouldn't have to restart the system to get out of MediaDirect / Dell Media Experience. It can be closed just like any other program by clicking the 'X' in the top-right corner.

I do not have this problem of getting into MediaDirect / Dell Media Experience accidentally, but if you are still wanting to disable this feature, there is a way to disable this. Go to the Dell Downloads page and enter the system's service tag, or just select the Inspiron 6000. Find "Dell MediaDirect" under Applications and download the software. If you are unable to find it, try this link: http://ftp.us.dell.com/app/R107182.EXE.

If not already installed, you may need to select the custom install method, and select the options you want. If it is already installed, select the modify method. I'm not sure if this will disable the button for when the computer is off and on. It may only disable it when already in Windows.

I know what you are talking about.............

The Media Direct button does go into its own user interface without Windows AND Media Experience inside of windows

Well, you could wipe that hidden partition out completely OR maybe try lookin in the BIOS for an option to disable it...........or even look in the settings in Media Direct for a way to disable it as well

Im not as familiar with Media Direct other than how it works and its basic functions.......sorry I couldnt help more than that for the moment but when I get to work Ill look at it and give you an answer
