How to enable Radeon discrete GPU on Inspiron 5414

The semi-rugged Inspiron 5414 has an AMD Radeon R7 M360 in addition to the Intel 520. This is how I use the AMD Radeon Settings app to specify programs that should use the Radeon gpu instead.

1. In the AMD Radeon Settings app, click the 'Preferences' button (gear wheel icon).

2. Click the 'Radeon Additional Settings' button.

3. Check that at least one of the power modes has 'Performance' selected.

4. The 'Application Settings' panel allows you to specify settings for specific applications. In most cases you'd want to reduce power consumption while unplugged, but for programs like Photoshop you can force the gpu to be used even on battery. The 5414 has plenty of capacity, after all.
