Hi RainerJ,

I tried my best to find the drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 however we do not have the drivers for these operating systems. The drivers are available only for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Please let me know in case of any queries.

Thanks and regards

Windows server (Any Version) is not supported by DELL or Microsoft on Non Server's AKA Laptops.

Also Be aware that Windows Firewall is on by default.

Wireless  applications that must receive unsolicited inbound connections will fail until you create inbound firewall rules to allow them.

Again Since this is a Non Supported Validated Configuration it will not be supported by Dell OR Microsoft.

Multi Booting is not supported by Dell or Microsoft Especially on the Same Partition.

The following are estimated system requirements for the Windows Server 2012. If your computer has less than the "minimum" requirements, you will not be able to install this product correctly.

Processor Minimum: 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor

RAM Minimum: 512 MB

The following are the estimated minimum disk space requirements for the system partition.

   Minimum: 32 GB

Be aware that 32 GB should be considered an absolute minimum value for successful installation.

The system partition will need extra space for any of the following circumstances:

If you install the system over a network.

Computers with more than 16 GB of RAM will require more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files.

Windows Server REQUIRES 64 Bit digitally signed kernel-mode drivers.

If the drivers are Not 64 bit and not WHQL Certified they will not install.

Hi,

I have absolutely to disagree with your comment that server versions are not supported.

Especially Windows Server 2008 R2 is used heavily even in Microsoft internally (have you ever attended a technet demo?).

Do you have any reference from MS?

My laptop easily has the capabilities to run Win Server 2008 R2 as mentioned here:

technet.microsoft.com/.../dd379511(v=ws.10).aspx

For me as a developer I have to run server editions on the laptop.

My config is:

Win 7 installed natively on primary hdd / primary partition.

All other systems run as VHD boot options on another (second) disk.

For Windows Server 2008R2 I can use the Windows 7 drivers as the system code base is the same.

The main question is now, how to get the Mobile Broadband manager working - perhaps someone else had the same issue before.

As Dell seems not to update the drivers for the E6510 to support Win 8, I will have problems with the drivers for Win Server 2012.

Until now I was really happy about how Dell supports their devices, but not updating/supporting a not even two year old machine with the latest client OS makes me think to switch to another manufacturer.

I believe he is refering to the fact that Dell does not support Server OS on laptops.  I have had this discussion many times with my Dell Sales rep and Dell tech support.  They will assist you as much as they can, maybe even give suggestions if you can't get a device or driver working.  But in the end if you can't get a device working they will tell you to put in a hard drive with fresh copy of Win7 or XP before they will troubleshoot further.
