If this is a 32G cache drive, it's too small to use as a Windows boot disc. Use the Dell Backup and Recovery utility on the hard drive to do a factory restore if that's what you want to do.
In short, I wiped out the partition on the 32GB SSD, I am not sure what it was for, so I presume the 32GB SSD was for the system booting.
The SSD is currently displayed as "unallocated", and I am trying to restore the system files.
According to what you've mentioned, will I get all the files and partition on the SSD back if I do a factory restore? What about the data on my HDD? Will the restore erase the data on HDD as well?
Unfortunately, I tried to create a factory recovery disk but Dell Backup andRecovery says that "...the system recovery partition is deleted and corrupted..." Therefore I cannot do the factory reset.
I am creating a Factory Backup disk on another laptop, which is a Dell 7737 however, and does not have a SSD, whereas my poor Inspiron 17R SE (Dell 7720) has. I am not sure if they are compatible.
Guess I am pretty much doomed...The laptop I completely destroyed is actually my friend's... She's gonna kill me..
The factory restore will take the system back to the same state it was in when you received it - yes, the default is that all your files will be removed in the process (though you can run it in such a way as to preserve your data files).

Call Dell for the recovery media - if the system is in warranty, it's free of charge. If the warranty has expired, it'll cost about $50.

Hi ejn63,
Thank you for your reply.
I am sorry I did not describe my problem clearly.

Thank you very much
