How to use battery button?

Question

I was told that the battery function button (Fn + F3) in Dell N5010 can be used to apparently detach the battery rather than manually removing it, but when I press these buttons nothing happens and the battery continues charging. How to use it then?

If you hit F3 it will bring up the battery health meter.  If you click on the battery life tab you can check 'disable battery charging'. Hope this helps. Regards, Robert

Thanks Robert, The problem was that the Dell Quickset application wasn't installed, I had to install it to make this function work. It work now exactly as you mentioned. Thanks

I mined battery properties in the device manager and power options and found nothing useful, is there a software that must be installed to use this button ?

Then there is no other way to disable the battery under Windows or Linux instead of detaching it?
