Hi David,

Please follow the steps mentioned below to set ‘Power buttons and lid’ options to sleep by using power button and Closing the lid.

  1. Go to start screen
  2. Type in like this “ power options”
  3. Select power options from the search results
  4. Select "Change plan settings" under the plan the radio button is selected.
  5. Select “Change advanced power settings”
  6. Change the options available of the ‘Power buttons and lid’
  7. Click OK.

Also please refer to the link below for Dell Inspiron 7746 manuals.

I'm afraid I find both answers unhelpful.  Dell must stop referring to a SLEEP button  when there isn't one!  It's a combined button for options to be set, which I discovered for myself.  A picture of a button showing a half circle image strongly suggrests there is a separate SLEEP button.

As for your link to the User Manual, there isn't a USER MANUAL - I'd already found these, none of which is a User Manual that would have explained things like a non-existent SLEEP button!

I'm sorry to be repetetive but what MANUAL?  None of the three to which you directed me are User Manuals.

Please direct me to the page in a "manual" that explains how to use the sleep button

Hi David,

Unfortunately this particular model does not have specific key for Sleep so the steps provided previously is it set up the power button as sleep

The sleep feature is from the operating system you will not find the details in the manual.

Hi DBT Criccieth,

Unfortunately sleep is Windows general feature. There is No manual available explaining about it.
