ITunes audio configuration error

I've been using ITunes with no problem on my XPS210, bu then recently it stopped loading, displaying this message instead: "ITunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." I haven't changed the audio configuration and it used to work. I uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes but that didn't help. Any suggestions about what the problem is?
