Inspiron 1150 won't start

I have an Inspiron 1150 that will not start. I have replaced the system board, screen, and CPU. The result is exactly the same. When I push the IO button the caps lock light flashes on and off about 10 times and then nothing. I never hear the hard drive or the fan.

If the battery only is in use to try to startthe laptop,  the on light and the battery light flashes very briefly and then the battery light only blinks a few times and then nothing else. The caps lock light never lights when using the battery only so the battery may be shot.

When the power supply is connected to the laptop and I try to start it and after the caps light stops blinking the battery light only comes on like the battery is in charge mode. If I take the battery out and use the power supply It makes no difference to startup. On occasion both the battery light and the power light blink together

If the hard drive were bad I would think there would at least be the bios start like on a desktop but I do not even get this far. The screen never lights with any message of cursor. I am not sure what else to look at or replace.

Any suggestions other than junk it? Thanks

Paul

I have the exact same problem, except the last time i had it on it shut itself down.  I thought it was from over heating but i left it off for several days and now all i get is the flashing light.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check for issue resolution.

Also, I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. In the link below punch in the system service tag or express service code and you can access the user manual for removing and reseating components.
