Inspiron 1250 XP Operating System Key

I let my virus protection run out and of course my computer got a multitude of viruses. I have since put McAfee on and it killed all the viruses. But my problem is I did not reformat my computer to kill them I just loaded the McAfee, and now my computer is the speed of molasses. SO, I am going to boot from my Xp disc, but it requires a key # and the key code sticker on the bottom of my laptop is right next to the fan and it melted it off.So, what should I do. I don't even know how i could  prove to dell that I am the rightful owner of the OS.????????:smileysad:

In the future, by using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

No, it does not require a key for you to reinstall your XP software.  Of course, depending on your date of purchase (what's a 1250?), you coud simply reboot and hit CTRL F11 to make it "as shipped".

FYI, even if you do prove to Dell you are the owner, you won't get a new XP key.

Okay! Thank you. Can you tell me how to do that step-by-step. THANK YOU!

Systems shipped after July 15, 2004 came with Symantec PC Restore. This utility restores the computer to an "as-shipped" condition. If you haven't reformatted, repartitioned, or otherwise modified the master boot record, it should work. Click here for instructions about Symantec PC Restore.
