Inspiron 15 5000 Series Model 5558 Video Issues

Question

When I connect to an external monitor, my laptop monitor turns off. When I go to display settings, it will not locate a second display. It shows 2 pictures of displays, but will only recognize the external. When I disconnect the external monitor, my laptop will then work.

Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what I did as I was rushing, but I pressed a function key and a message popped up on the right side of my screen and offered 3 different options similar to the Display controls. I clicked on the one that said "extend screen" and it seems to have worked.

Not sure what key I pressed, but if I figure it out (or if you know) I would like to keep that answer available for future issues.

More than likely it was Fn + F8
