I'm having the same problem with SupporAssist.  It fails to update.  I have also manually downloaded and tried installing the driver.  It fails with the same error.

The log doesn't seem to be much help because it gives exit codes and Return codes but cannot seem to find what they mean.

My experience recently with manual installs is you will get a popup asking if you want to Repair or Uninstall the Driver package.  On both occasions, I have uninstalled the drivers for the device, once manually in Device Manger, and the next time I ran the installer it offered to just Install and completed normally.
