You need to verify with the seller that the model of panel you purchased was known to be one  Dell shipped in the Inspiron 1520.  Notebook LCDs are not universally interchangeable - only those LCDs shipped by the manufacturer with the system will work properly.  It sounds like you bought a panel without specifying the exact system for which it was to be used - remember, Dell's systems are made by outside contractors, so one 15.4" LCD won't work with all of them.

Inspirons are made by Quanta, Compal, and others - what works with one won't necessarily work with another.  It is clear this one is not compatible with your (Compal-built) Inspiron - it may have shipped in a Quanta-built system, but whatever it is, you'll need to return the screen and buy a compatible replacement for the damaged one.

My original was manufactured by AU Optronics.

I was in such a rush to install it that I wasn't thinking straight. I believe they sent me the wrong display because the original and the description on their website, is glossy. The one I received was matte. Looking over their website all the matte screens were WXGA and not WXGA+. Perhaps a shipping error. I contacted them and will be sending it back. I also gave them the manufacture/model # of my original so that I can be sure of what I'm getting if I choose to exchange it through them.

Thank you all for your help.

Just to let you know, I am having the almost the same problem. During post I have the dual screens but once Vista starts everything is fine. The original display is an LG -Phillips 154W01 (TL) (F2) there is no Dell # on it. The new one is identical to the original - LG-Phillips W01 (TL) (F2) but has the post screen problem. Haven't found a reason for that yet.  There is also another problem in that the screen brightness doesn't change with the Fn-Arrow keys. This happens with the original & new one. Haven't figured that one out yet either
