Inspiron 1520 and Windows 7 issues

Since we upgraded my Inspiron 1520 Laptop to Windows 7, I have had issues with maintaining network/wireless connection.  After the upgrade we made sure the RAM requirements were more than big enough by upgrading the memory from 1 gig to 2.  I have searched for driver updates but it seems there are none.

I have made sure all the Windows updates are done but feel that there is a driver issue with Windows 7 that is making the wireless connection less than optimal.  I have issues with both Windows explorer and Firefox.

Any ideas?

I have similar issues while working with XP2 as well the Forfox crashes sometimes. So these problems are not because of hardware issues but a software issues. One thing i would like to share is that if you are concerned with performance rather then looks then windows XP version is the  best to use.

Whilst you're obviously happy with XP Kristina (why XP SP2 btw, and not XP SP3?), it certainly doesn't warrant making unfounded statements like that :emotion-3:

Have you even tried Windows 7 - on your system specifically?

Or was that just a blanket statement, rather than based on your personal experience of comparing XP with Windows 7?

I can't defend Vista in the same way, because it hasn't been very popular with many (businesses in particular) - for a number of reasons.

But Windows 7 is a completely different matter altogether, and in the opinion of most everybody who's used it (read reviews for confirmation), it's the best OS Microsoft have ever released - by quite a way.

So would you care to to back up such a bold statement, by explaining in what ways/areas XP offers better performance than Windows 7?

@ OP:  Welcome to the forums :emotion-21:

Did you actually mean "Windows Explorer" - rather than Internet Explorer?

Whatever... as you can see from my signature, I use Windows 7 HP 64bit myself, and Firefox is my browser of choice as well.

I've had no problems at all with network connections, Firefox, Windows Explorer, or Internet Explorer?

I suspect the lack of Windows 7 drivers is likely to be the main problem... especially if you weren't having similar problems with your previous OS (Vista I assume)?

Having said that... there are very few Windows 7 specific drivers for the XPS M1730 either, and I never used any of the ones which are offered anyway.

Windows 7 installed default drivers for the majority of my hardware, and the Vista (64bit) drivers sorted out the couple of others.

Are you seeing any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

Yes previous OS was vista and did not have the same issues.  The issues are with the browser either IE or Firefox.  We have a 32 bit set up, not sure if that matters or not.  But when i checked the compatiblity on DELL.com they do not list the Inspiron 1520 as Windows 7 compatible.  So thinking it is a driver issue with the wireless card.

Hi TheRealFireblade,

I appreciate your comment.  This current thread is about Windows 7's  problem execution while using Firefox. So i never faced such problem in XP. I do very well know that Windows 7 is better then Vista and XP as well.  And i am planing to have it very soon.

Thanks and Regards,
Kristina
