Yes, the mainboard is faulty  -- it's an expensive repair ($400 or more with labor).

If you don't want to be in the same boat in short order, be sure you get the new system with a 3-year warranty.

You can get a motherboard for $119 US. It is not as hard to install as most people think.

have the same computer, same issue....no power, computer just over a year old out of warrantee...figures...worked two days ago fine...now no power went thru troubleshoot...nothing other than order a $490 motherboard...thanx Dell....should I spend $49 to verify the problem over the phone with Dell...have it serviced locally??? one year then pffft??? or just buy an Apple and trash the Dell? i was very satisfied with the laptop and performance until the death...
