I also had a Dell 1545 with a battery problem. I purchased a new battery and from all the information I had about my laptop and the new battery, it was the correct battery for that specific laptop. However when I put the new battery in and turned my system on, it started to smoke and my my laptop went poof, and went up in smoke just like that. I was no longer abe to use the laptop, but I was lucky enough to know someone who had an external hard drive reader, so I was able to pull my hard drive and get all my stuff from my laptop. However, I am still pissed that it died like that becaues it wasn't that old, and the laptop I purchased before it still works just fine, although a bit slower. SO, my warning to you, be careful if you get a new battery!!!!
Battery indicator is indicating battery failure; your system battery is no longer able to hold the charge. Hence when the ac adapter is disconnected, system turns off. System will work fine with just the ac adapter; if the battery is replaced then battery status will also change in BIOS.
Your system supports either 6 cell or 9 cell battery, this can be purchased on Dell Website.
Please click on the below link to purchase battery,
Thank you for your usefull info, Just one doubt, is it like if you remove the battery aslo the system will not ON by only plugging the charger.. Because for me , If i remove the battery, & when I'm trying it with only the charger its not working. Plz can u help on this.
If the battery is removed from the system, it will still work with the AC adapter plugged in. Incase its not working, please follow the below Steps to release static\flea power from the system.
1. Power the system down. 2. Remove all external devices and disconnect AC adapter power cable from the system if applicable. 3. Remove the battery from the system. 4. Hold down the power button continuously for at least 10 seconds. Do not release the power button during this process. (Release the power button after 10 seconds) 5. Connect the AC adapter back to the system and don’t insert the battery back to the system. 6. Power the system on.
Thanks for your kind advice. But here i want to make you sure that, even after follewed all the steps which you mentioned above, still my laptop is not turning on with out battery. it needs both battery and Ac adapter to turn on. Is there any other issue? can you please guide me.

The flashing pattern indicates a battery in which one or more cells has failed. You need a new battery.
