Inspiron 1545 cannot detect networks

I have an Inpsiron 1545 running Vista. A couple of days ago, it stopped detecting wireless networks.

When I run the windows diagnostic to check why it can't find any networks, it says that the wireless function is turned off. It's not though -- I've tried turning the wireless on and off using f2, restarting the computer, etc, but it doesn't help.

It's not an issue with my router -- I live in an apartment, so the laptop could typically detect all my neighbors' networks. The internet connection works fine via a cable.

I'm wondering if I need to replace the wireless card, or if there are other things I should try. Thanks.

Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Since the laptop connects to the internet with the cable, can you please try uninstall and reinstall the wireless driver?

Also can you please confirm if other devices like your phone or any other laptop works fine on the same wireless network?

Please use the below link to get the latest driver for your wireless card.

http://dell.to/1b9kTD7

  • Please enter the laptop's service tag, click Submit,
  • Chose on Drivers and downloads tab on the left side,
  • Select Network from the list of drivers
  • Download the right driver for the wireless card in the laptop and run it.

Please check in Device manager for the installed wireless card.

If it doesn’t fix, please send me your computer’s service tag via private message.

Thank you

Hello,

Thanks for the advice -- it seems it was a problem with the driver. I uninstalled the Intel driver using the device manager. I had a bit of trouble reinstalling it, but eventually got the download from the Intel website to work. Now my computer can detect networks and connect.

I am presently facing the same problem with wireless networks in my laptop. Since last 2 days my system is not detecting or connecting to wireless networks. I tried contacting service and downloading drivers. But the drivers they gave me are not compatible with my laptop.

details of laptop

Dell Inspiron 1545

OS Windows Vista 32 bit

I do not have internet through cable but the same wifi connection i use for my phone is working fine.

Please give me the link to the proper driver. There are lots of drivers and names.

I suspect there is some problem with widcomm bluetooth software too (i changed some files 2 yrs ago when i faced the same problem with wireless and bluetooth). Do i need to download bluetooth software too?
