Inspiron 1545 screen issues

A few days ago I upgraded this laptop that is my wifes to widows 10.  At the same time I also I also installed a new 500 GB Western Digital(WD5000LPLX) hard drive.  I did have an issue with the drive being slim and not seating properly so after searching for answer came across a post on another forum of using a piece of cardboard to make up for the lost thickness of the original drive and that worked fine.  After loading windows 10 it ran fine for a couple of days than out of nowhere the screen went blank and my wife could hear some popping noise but unsure of where. She shut it off and turned it back on as it came back on the screen was on for a few second and went blank.   I started searching around and came across posts of others saying possibly the backlit or an inverter.  They also mentioned being able to see the screen with a flashlight which I am also able to do.  After having the lid closed for a while and opening it the screen came on for about 5 seconds than back off.  Still able to see the screen with a flashlight.   After a couple times of rebooting the screen actually stayed on for a few days than finally today kept going off and on.  Each time it went off you can hear a popping noise.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

If you are able to boot into windows in normal mode then change the settings to login to then try to rollback windows to previous version ,update all the drivers then update it to windows 10.

If you are unable to login to windows check if you are able to get to dell logo ,if so then initiate the hardware diagnostics on the system by pressing the F12 key.

Else check if any beeps or indicator lights are on.

Awaiting your response with the result of these steps,

Regards,

I wouldn't be able to rollback to an older version of windows since this was a clean install on a brand new hard drive.  I ran diagnostics and every test passed. No beeps and just the usual indicator lights.

Hi,

Can you connect an external screen to the system to see if the display is visible on the external. If it is then it could be a case of LCD panel failure.

Also can you initiate display test on the system by restarting the system and then press the D-Key on system startup. If solid colours are visible then LCD Panel is working fine and the system board could be faulty.

Awaiting your response.

I am unable to check using an external monitor since I don't have the proper cable.  Pressing the D-Key while powering on did not to anything.  I am still able to see what is on the screen if I shine a bright light on the display.  Thinking maybe it had something to do with the new hard drive and windows 10 I reinstalled the previous hard drive with windows 7 on it and still no display other than being able to see what is on the screen with a bright flashlight.  It does boot all the way to the desktop.

Hi Deffman,

This is a case where in the system board (as there is no display on the external screen) along with the LCD Panel is faulty since 8 beeps indicates LCD panel is faulty. Hence send the service tag of the system via private message so that we can check the system details to assist you further.
