Inspiron 1720 Battery Issues?

I have tried multiple power adapters without luck.  I can not get the battery LED to light up blue when connected.  When I first try to boot the laptop everything seems fine but the battery light is not lit up.  It never blinks red or anything and then all a sudden the laptop will turn off.  After it turns off it usually wont turn back on for hours.  If I try to turn it on the top led turns on blue followed by a brief flash of wi fi and bluetooth and then the top light turns off and the battery light blinks once.  Any ideas?
