I have an Ispiron 1720 that was working fine last night and this morning will not power up.  The blue light on the right hand side that usually stays on when computer is powered up and running comes on for just a second then turns off.  Monitor shows nothing. This happens with the AC cord plugged in and with just the battery in.  AC cord plugged in and shows power flowing through it.  Battery has been removed for several minutes and then replaced but nothing changes.  No sounds, no fan noise. Nothing but the blue light for a second.

Did you get a fix for your problem? I had almost the same thing happen on my 1720. My DVD drive was not displaying in Explorer and the eject button was not working. I restarted the 1720 to see if that would fix the problem. When I restarted the 1720, the power light came on, the HDD activity and Bluetooth light flickered for a second then went off. I can hear the HDD spinning and I heard the DVD drive head reset but there is no other activity. The display does not light up at all.

I'm currently waiting on a call-back from Dell support to try and establish a fault.
