Inspiron 1721 - Windows failed to start. File: ..\config\system Status: 0xc0000011
The Laptop fails to get beyond the famous black screen, even after following instructions to load the installation disk and memort checks. The error goes on to say 'A recen hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click 'next'.
3.Click "Repair your computer."
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.
Tried all the above a few times, can get to the command line on the X: drive but don't know enough to adjust/amend any files. Is this a hardware problem perhaps, and what do I do next?

This is a registry error - likely caused by a bad hard drive. Run an extended drive diagnostic (F12 at powerup). It will likely confirm that you need a new hard drive.

Hi,
Welcome to Dell community forums.
“'A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.” To determine what may be the cause the very first thing I can suggest you to run DELL Diagnostics as ejn63 already mentioned that in the previous reply.
Run the Hardware Diagnostics Test (PSA)
-- Restart your computer and hit F12 on the Dell Logo Screen a couple of times.
-- It Boots to the One Time Boot Menu.
-- Select the Option Diagnostics and hit Enter.
-- Check for the error.
If you get any error reply me back to this post and if you don’t get any error code then I can strongly suggest you to restore your system back to the factory settings. In order to know how to do clean operating system installation , I can help you better if you can provide me some details like Service Tag (7 digit alphanumeric code ending with number 1) which you would find at the bottom of the laptop, your Contact Number, Best Time to Reach and Alternate Phone Number. You can add me as your friend, and send me the above required details through private messaging.
Please reply in case you have any questions.
Thanks & Regards
