Inspiron 17R 5720 Possible hard drive crash

I think my hard drive may have crashed.  The laptop won't boot up past the Dell logo screen.  The only message I get on that screen is "Repairing Disk Errors.  This may take over an hour to complete".  I left it running for a while and when i came back it went back to the "Diagnosing your PC" message.  I was able to run the Dell diagnostic and got this message about the hard drive:

Error Code 2000-0142

Validation 60654

Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N etc

Short self test unsuccessful

The computer may have been dropped in the last few weeks.  I'd like to know how I can resolve this and (possibly) retrieve any data that may be recoverable.

I think my warranty expires on the 18th of December.

Thanks!

It seems to an issue with the hard drive. I would suggest you to send me the system Service tag or the Express code of the system in a private message and let me check what the best I can do for you. To send a Private Message, click my User name and Start Conversation.

Please reply if you have further queries.
