The newest Realtek audio driver for the Inspiron 3542 with Windows 10 is this one. Follow the instructions listed under "Installation Instructions". Let me know if installing it does not fix the issue.

You can see all of the drivers that Dell has released for for your model on the Inspiron 3542 html page. In the "Supported OS" column, the ones marked WT are for Windows 10. The ones marked WB are for Windows 8.1. The ones for XP, Vista and Win7 are clearly labelled as such.

There is also the Inspiron 3542 Product Support page, which has links to all of the same drivers, but if you don't know how to navigate the support pages it can be tough to find what you are looking for.

Hello. Download and re-install a fresh copy of your audio driver, and see if that helps.

If you reply back, please give the full model name of your laptop, and say which operating system is on it. Thanks.

Inspirion 15 from the 3000 seires

Then the model is probably one of these

Inspiron 3500, 3520, 3521, 3531, 3537, 3541, 3542, 3543, 3551, 3552, 3555, 3558, 3559, or 3568.

Need to know the model to provide a link to the correct driver.
