Inspiron 5100 Battery Life

Hey everyone,

ive had my I5100 for about 3 years - mainly used it as a desktop. Ive used it on trips maybe about 10 times. The battery life on this thing isnt great... i'm not really sure if it's just my inspiron or with all inspirons... but what is the typical battery life for an I5100 i usually get about or close to 1 hr of batt life when its on full monitor brightness and normal home/office power profile. Is my battery defective? or drained?

any help is appreciated thx alot

Since the 5100 has a desktop processor, that's not surprising.  Lower the brightness and you'll be very surprised at the result.  Also, at 3 years old the battery is on it's final legs.

My 600m gets maybe 2:15 on full brightness, lower brightness I get closer to 3:00.

lol final legs... good one -- so your saying my batterys capacity is not what it used to be... would you say that 1 hr is under the normal battery life? cause i want to make sure its a problem before i call dell tech support.

No need to call Dell at all. Batteries are not covered under the guarantee. They are considered normal wear--especially a 3 year old battery. You'll need to replace it yourself.

I'm saying you should lower the brightness and see what difference that makes, and if you're not satisfied replace the battery.
