Inspiron 5150 Intel 3.2 Ghz processor

I have recently bought dell inspiron 5150 3.2 Ghz.

When I check the system information in XP, it shows me

Dell Inspiron 5150

Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 3.2 Ghz

1.59 Ghz

1.00 Gb Ram

I am now wondering what does 1.59 Ghz mean? does that mean that my processor speed is 1.59 Ghz, as on my desktop I have got Intel 3.2 Ghz and it shows 3.2 Ghz there not 1.59 Ghz.

We get this question at least once a day here. That is the speed your processor is running at due to a power saving feature called SpeedStep. This feature lowers the clock speed of the processor when it is not needed in order to preserve battery life on laptops. I suggest that if you want to control it that you download Speedswitch XP, which allows you to set one scheme for AC and one for DC power. I like to have the processor at full speed when plugged in and Dynamic switching on battery.... but you can fool around with it however you like. If you want more info on Speed step do a forum search or google search.

Yeah, you can, but I just prefer and recommend Speedswitch because you can have a separate scheme for AC and battery which will swap over automatically.... rather than you having to change the scheme every time you want to go to battery or whatever (the CPU on full speed will drain a lot more power).

You can go to control Panel>power options and set it as 'always on' for it to be at max Hz always...
