Inspiron 6000 AC power adapter

The power cord/adapter fits too loosely into the back of my Inspiron 6000.  It pulls out with little movement.  Any ideas to remedy this?

I have the same issue, and it's very frustrating. Because the AC power/adapter cord is so loose, it charges sometimes but most of the time it doesn't. My question is, is this something that can be "easily" fixed by a local tech or is this a more complicated, much more expensive thing to fix?

I have put scotch tape around the "barrel" to make it reasonably snug.  Do not put tape all the way to the bottom or contact will not be made.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. Since posting last night, I found another post that addressed this (apparently common) issue. You can buy a replacement Connector on eBay for like $10, which I did. Apparently, there are instructions for fixing it yourself, but I'll let you know how it goes. Worst case, my guess is I can take it to BestBuy and for $99 get it replaced (doesn't seem to complicated). To find this post, search for it in the search field below, and type in "inspiron 6000 dc jack". Only one post comes up. Hope that helps.

PPROST and the Gary??:

I have been dealing with this for sometime.  I have had to hold and move the AC adapter cord so much that the cord broke.  I received an extra battery and adapter but they same problem exists.  The original AC adapter failed due to broken wires but the newer one acts much the same.  The connection on the laptop post is too loose so it fails to put a continuous charge on the batteries.  They are over a year old(5), so cannot count on them to keep a charge.  They drain very fast, fifteen minutes or less.  I think that you can run the 6000 without the battery or so i think one tech said so, or you can switch to AC power only???

Without a good connect on the adapter though, you cannot run on the AC.  I have not tried the tape yet, and would like to hear more about the part replacement for $10 dollars??  your blogs are two years old so i don't know if you two are even around anymore.  Please, if someone can give me a solution to this let me know.

This 6000 is still a good laptop but keeping it powered up is becoming difficult.  Dont want to buy another yet.  You can reach me directly at <ADMIN NOTE : Email id removed per privacy policy>

ANY ideas please!

Bill

The jack itself runs $10-20.  Replacing it requires skilled soldering with the proper tools (i.e., NOT a $10 handheld soldering iron).
