If there are no other indications of a faulty battery (flashing LEDs on the battery itself), the system needs an internal repair.

I am having the same problem choco is having.  why on earth would this be related to an internal problem?  Is that was is causing the battery not to charge?  or is that just another excuse for me to pay a bunch of money to fix my computer?...again...

The current to charge the battery comes through the system board. If the battery and AC adapter are known to be good, the system board is at fault.

I am currently having the same issue with a Inspiron 600 m. The system shows the batterry as charging but it is not. What did you find was wrong with yours? Was it the mother board?

No, it wasn't.  My battery died.  My computer messed up again recently.  They replaced the mother board twice.  Then tried to tell me that I needed to send it again so that they could replace it again because that was the only thing they could do.  No one there knows what they're talking about.  Demand to talk to a supervisor if you have to talk to them on the phone.  They still don't know anything, but it's better than the other idiots.  No one has the same information for your computer on their computers either: one says one thing about your problem, another one won't even have your computer registered on their's.  It's impossible.  My laptop won't even work (turn on, or if it's on, it freezes) with a battery in it, so it has to be plugged up at all times even with a new battery that isn't it.  I can't wait to purchase a new laptop.  I hope to maybe throw this laptop from the tallest building I can get in or maybe burn it or run over it a big truck...who knows...

Thanks. I am sooooo! frustrated with Dell. I spent the better part of this whole day trying to get some customer service, I finally spoke with a woman who said that there is a 90% chance that it is the mother board. I found a supplier in Texas (Merrill Technologies 512-247-4618) they have a refurbished board for $250. That s for a device that is three weeks out of warranty. I will not buy another new Dell, I have vowed to tell my story to anyone looking to buy a laptop. This will cost them sales. So spread the word. Thanks again. And good luck with yours.
