Inspiron 700M touchpad. Pointer going everywhere

I have a 700M and I love it except I cannot get the touchpad to cooperate. I have downloaded the lastest drive, reinstalled the software, wiped the pc clean (fresh install of system config and this stupid touch pad keeps goign everywher.

The only relief I have is to unistall the driver and it works great but as soon as I reboot, the touchpad driver reinstalls itself and I am back to square one.

I have read these forums and have found 2 things to try.

1. Flash the bios (I have no lcue on how to do that and what good it may do).

2. Unplug the palm rest?????

Dell hasn't really been that much help on this issue but I am beginning to see that this is a big problem.

Please someone help.

Thanks

Drakethib,

The touchpad is part of the palmrest assembly.  Unplugging the palmrest will cause the touchpad to stop working altogether.  Flashing the BIOS may help, but the palmrest assembly may need to be replaced.  Call or use Dell chat to speak with a Dell Techie and properly troubleshoot this issue.  You can proceed through the troubleshooting steps yourself using Dell's "One Stop Troubleshooting Tool" on this site.  The troubleshooting will give you a "DSN" number which you can then give to the Dell Techie.  Troubleshooting yourself will save you time on the phone and help avoid misunderstandings due to language barriers.
