Inspiron 700m battery
Hello,
I recently purchased a new battery through a 3rd party vendor. When I start up my laptop, I get a black screen that mentions "laptop won't be able to charge battery until it's taken out, press F1. This battery is brand new from the seller. I've actually got the first battery replaced because I thought it was bad but the result is the same for the second. I can press F1 to bypass the message but the laptop won't charge the battery. It'll display what ever percentage the battery is at and won't charge when the AC adaptor is plugged. I've researched a little bit about this problem and various suggestions but nothing that's proven to solve the problem. Is there anything that I can try or do? Thanks for any suggestions....
Richard

DELL uses "intelligent" batteries telling the laptop what type it is during insert / startup.
If it doesn't match the table of allowed batteries, it simply won't charge it.
Same applies for DELL chargers, they have an ID chip inside.
Read about it here DELL Battery charging system

Are you seeing a message that the AC adapter isn't being detected?

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I've read the article and I guess I'm out of luck with these batteries. So I guess the only solution is too buy a DELL battery for the outrageous price?

The laptop works good when AC adapter is plugged in. On the power meter window it shows current power source: AC power but the charging % for the battery doesn't change at all (plugged in for a couple hours already).

Open the BIOS control panel during boot. Go to the screen where it shows the battery & charger status.
See if it can detect the battery type and charger type. These fields change real-time when plugging in
AC adapter / battery.
If battery / charger field says unknown, communication has failed, charging stops.
Test with other battery / charger to eliminate motherboard failure.

Thanks for the reply. Going into the BIOS doesn't provide any information about the battery status. Version of BIOS is A07 which is the most updated with this laptop at DELL. Laptop has already been tested with another battery (original from another laptop) and it charges good.
