In fact, this is not true. I do have a 8200 and was able to boot from a USB key (noname).
To achieve this, i need a lot of changes in the bios setting.
-first configure the key in floppy emulation mode
- boot on a floppy (or whatever) and format then sys your key.
- change back to hard drive emulation
- reboot and activate your USB key partition. (that was difficult. i think i deactive my true hard drive)
now, you have a bootable usb key.
(i do not remenber if it's working in floppy emulation or Hard drive mode)
I cant guarantee this work with all the USB key. But it certainly did for me. I use it from time to time with my 8200, and also with my PC (MB is an ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe).
I used windows 98 SE because it was the only boot floppy i had.

bacillus is correct. Only the "D" models and newer can boot from a USB device.

Oups sorry, what i wrote was wrong.
It's not on my 8200 that i did all that but on my main computer.
The Bios on my asus p4c800 motherboard allow you to configure USB drive mode and boot. But not the 8200.
I am terribly sorry for wasting your time.
