Inspiron E1705 Intel Core Duo Processor Question
Might sound dumb but believe me, there is a reason why I'm asking:) Is the processor badge that comes on the machine...does it say "Intel Core Duo" or "Intel Centrino Duo", what does it actually say? I have read reviews online for the machine and people have posted pics of their system, but it shows a Intel Centrino badge on the machine when they have a Intel Core Duo processor in it. So I'm kinda confused. The sticker badge doesn't seem to match up to the badges on Intel's website.
Thanks.

Doesn't matter which Core Duo CPU you have, Centrino vs. Core Duo is based on which wireless card is built into your machine. To be called Centrino, it must have an Intel PRO/Wireless chipset such as the IPW3945. If it doesn't have the PRO/Wireless chipset, it is not permitted by Dell to be marketed as Centrino.
Intel would prefer you to believe that the complete Centrino platform is better than a Core Duo system that does not meet Centrino specifications. Currently this actually is the case in my opinion as I would take Intel wireless over Broadcom wireless any day of the week, but it's not guaranteed that a non-Centrino system will have wireless inferior to the IPW3945. It just happens that Dell's non-Centrino alternatives ARE currently inferior.
