Inspiron M5030 wont boot

Help!  I have had a very dodgy laptop for several days now, and by some miracle it reboots, but only as and when it pleases.  Having run Microsoft Security Essentials several times and also a full hardware diagnostics, all seems fine, and I am now pretty sure its the OS that's not cooperating.  support has just about confirmed that in responses I have had, but my last quesstion has remained unanswered now for 2 days.  The last support email instructed me to insert windows installation disc.  I sought out the only disc which came with the (brand new) computer.  It tells me it is Drivers and Utilities, and is certainly not recognised as a boot-up disc by my computer.

I had not realised I needed to make a recovery disc myself, as I thought recovery discs were supplied.  Now I cannot reboot my computer and cannot seem to get anyone to tell me if I can acquire such a recovery disc from Dell.

NB THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF ME SAYS THAT IF I DONT HAVE THIS DISC I SHOULD CONTACT THE COMPUTER MANUFACTURER.  This I am spectacuarly failing to do.

Oh and I also found a support phone number on this site:  it does not work.  Can somebody tell me if I can actually phone Dell support?

Please can somebody help me.  I bought a new computer, and a Dell at that, for peace of mind when my old one conked.  So far, in comparison to a lesser known and cheaper model, this one has been a spectacular failure.

Hi silvamayflower,

Welcome to the Community.

I understand your concern with regards to the computer.

Issue which you are talking about definitely looks like a windows operating system issue. There are two options for you to one to restore the computer back to factory settings using the back- up utility. I have attached the link how you can restore the computer back to factory settings.

While doing this you would have an option to delete the data and process which would mean that any important data (like Programs, Photos, music and documents) which are there in the computer would be lost.

Second option is to use the discs. As you say that you do not have the disc. You can direct message me the details for the service tag and also the shipping address so that we can go ahead and send you the discs.

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

I have sent my information over a week ago, and still no discs.  Please reply with some urgency as I need my laptop for my work.

Repeat info:

Dell inspiron laptop model M5030.  service tag: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> .  Requested missing Windows7 recovery discs (not supplied, now needed urgently.)

My postal address:

<ADMIN NOTE: Address removed per privacy policy>

This information was supplied as a result of a request from yourselves on 30th June.  It is now 9th July and my work is seriously hampered.  I currently have a non-working 6-month-old laptop, and I would really appreciate you following up on your promise to deliver these to me post haste.  If further info is required I will be happy to supply it, but in a form that will ENSURE that someone who can action this actually gets it and acts on it.

Hi, I have been reading your posts and I have a very similar issue. I have tried to restore to factory settings but for some reason my computer no longer gives me that option. I have no recovery discs for my operating system or a disc for windows 7 professional. They were all previously installed when I purchased the computer. I have the Inspiron 15 M5030 laptop. Will you also send me the recovery discs. How much do they cost?

I got a M5030, got a trogen from a flash player update, ran mircosoft essentials, and still couldn't remove the problem, done a factory reboot, and it killed the laptop. cant do anything on it. don't have any recover disk and never got a window 7 disk with the laptop.

I went to support.dell.com/.../document and it asks for a recovery type disk / install disk. can you send me what I need?
