Inspiron n5010 will not start up
Hi,
My PC randomly stopped working. When I try to start my laptop, it gets to the screen where the windows logo comes up and then freezes. After a little bit, it goes to the windows error recovery screen where it suggests running startup repair. However, when it gets to the screen where the repair would take place it freezes before it comes up. I've read in similar cases that removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds may help the problem but it does not. Any idea what the problem could be? Thank you

Hi kprinz11,
Welcome to the Community,
It could be an issue with the harddrive.I suggest you can start by running the hardware diagnostics.
Press and hold down the "Fn" key, while holding it down turn on the system.Release the Fn key once you see Pre-Boot system assessment on your screen.
Let the test run and if you get any error code/message post it back here.
Alternate way to start the test, tap F12 key on start up,choose Diagnostics/Boot to utility partion,Test system.
Thank You

I did what you suggested and after the initial tests ran it found no errors. Finally it had me select which type of test to run and i selected to test the system. This is the error code that appeared after that test:

If the system is under warranty, report the errors to Dell and they'll send a replacement drive. If if it's out of warranty, you'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm or slimmer notebook drive. Yours is toast.

Hi kprinz11,
You can see a local technician to find out if the data can be retrieved from that bad HDD .About getting the HDD replaced,is your system still covered under warranty?
I can help you get the HDD replaced if the system is within warranty. If its out of warranty you can contact our Out of warranty repairs department at 1-800-288-4410 or if you just want to order the HDD call 1-800-372-3355. (for US customers only).
Thank You
Roshan.
