Installing a new Studio 1458 screen

Hello all!  I am hoping to find a little bit of help. I have two Studio 1458s. One is for work, the other is for play. About a month ago I found my one year old son standing in the middle of the dining room table in between my two closed laptops.

Later that night when I went to use my work Studio the screen was broken. Only the bottom right corner of the screen has a picture.

I talked to a friend of mine and he said laptop screens are easy to replace. Just take out the screen and order the same screen model that is in the laptop.

I removed the screen, got online and order the same model number B140XW01 V.0

When I received the new screen, the model number was different, but the paperwork from the retailer said they may substitute a compatible screen.

I installed the new screen. Powered up the laptop and just got a black screen with 8 beeps. The 8 beeps would just repeat, with no start up.

I contacted the retailer, and shipped back the screen I was sent and they sent me screen model B140XW01 V.9, the original is V.0.

I installed the new screen and again have the same problem. The retailer has told me B140XW01 V.9 should work and model V.0 is no longer in production.

OK, this is what I need help with. What am I doing wrong? Was something else damaged when my son stepped on it? It works just fine with the original screen, and I can hook it up to a desktop monitor. I have been a month without my work laptop. I am hoping to fix this on my own. I can't afford to take it to a tech, but if I need to I guess I need to.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It is possible something else was damaged, but more likely, you've been sent incompatible screens.  Your best bet is to order EXACTLY the same screen - including the last couple of digits - you now have.  Alternatively, parts-people.com is a good source -- they know what works with Dell systems.

Have I solved my problem? Yes and no. Right after I posted the motherboard died in my other studio. There was no way I could afford to get both laptops fixed, so I just took the screen out of "dead motherboard" laptop and put it in "broken screen" laptop.

Sorry, not the answer you were looking for.

After trying 3 new "compatable" screens, i solved my problem by getting a screen from parts people.com a ORIGINAL dell replacement  works great now.
