Intel HD Video/HDMI problem (Inspiron 3542)
Hello Dell Support,
I have a problem with video on my laptop after installing Windows 7 and all video drivers from Dell support site.
After Windows logo the screen becomes corrupted (garbled). When I connect my TV via HDMI and reboot, the screen on the laptop becomes normal, but there is no output on TV screen and when I try to setup my desktops, there is only one monitor detected - the Samsung TV. No combination of actions helps - garbled display without TV connected, normal display but no image on TV with TV connected.
Could you advise, what could be the root cause of this issue?

From your post, if I had to guess I would say that there is a problem with the video drivers. Is this something that only started after installing Windows 7? Please verify if you have installed the chipset, Intel HD, and if your system has discreet graphics the Nvidia GT840m drivers.
If you have installed these drivers and the problem continues try testing with a standard external display other than your TV set and check if the problem continues. Verify if it is just the TV or all external displays that is at fault.
Please let me know if the problem continues, and if you were able to get any video at all.

Hello Terry,
Yes, I've installed all the latest drivers - bios, chipset and video.
The problem is not that the external display is not working - I could probably live with that. The problem is that without external display connected, the graphics on the laptop display is garbled.
The only thing that I can do is disable the Intel HD driver - but that means no acceleration, so no games and very poor video and other apps performance.

Typically if you have video on an external display and not the LCD, I would say that the problem is with the LCD panel, but you get video on the internal display just as long as the video driver is uninstalled, do I understand this correctly?
If you have the most up to date chipset installed and still have the problem I can only say that this is a defect with the system board.
I am sending you a friend request, as I am suggesting a service.

Yes, that's right. LCD display works if I disable the Intel HD driver.
