Can you confirm that when reinstalling you installed the Intel chipset driver and the Dell Notebook System Software?

Yes. Both were installed. I just updated witht the most recent version of the system software.

I just tried the iPod a few more times. One time it said it found device, is installing it, and then ready to use. About 5 seconds later the old warning display appeared saying it couln't be recognized again.

I'm really at a loss of ideas.
