Is 60°C a normal operating temperature.

Hello There, I've recently bough a Lattitude D430, and I'm wondering about the normal temperature operating range. In idle mode the temperature is around 60°C, an reach 95°C during intensive computations mode. The computer is brand new, fan are clean and running and I manage a little space under the laptop to help cooling. Should I worry or is this normal? Note that I'm running Scientific Linux 5 (equivalent to RHEL5). Thanks.

The thermal limit on core2 processors is 100C. My CoreDuo runs at 45C Idle and 70C under 100% Load. 95C is pushing it for a Core2Duo. If you are under warranty, I would put it in under a service call. Possibly the thermal grease is not applied properly or the fan is not spinning up as they should.

I would be worried.
