I just joined the forum, so this reply might be a few months later than you needed it...
I've been using my Targus adapter with the D600 on airlines for a few months now, and it works just fine. The one you need is #64. Previously, I used the same adapter, with a different PowerTip, for about three years with a Gateway laptop, with absolutely no problems. I've never tried it with the automobile power adapter.
Targus used to provide PowerTips free of charge, but not anymore. I think mine cost US$15. I called Targus customer service, which turned out to be in Bangalore, India, and the part arrived a few weeks later. (Coincidentally, I ordered it to ensure I had laptop power during the long flight to Bangalore from Canada.)
