Jumpy screen

I have a late 2012 15Z (5523)
When typing or entering data on a spread sheet, the cursor will jump around on the screen so that suddenly I am typing on a different area of the screen.
Anyone else have this issue? Anyone been able to resolve it?

Check if you are bumping the touchpad with your palm. If you are hitting the touchpad with your palm that will cause the cursor to jump around the screen. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound, then click on mouse, and that should bring up another window for the mouse settings. Then there should be a tab that says "Touch Pad" or something similar, click that and you should see some basic settings. If there is an option for change additional settings, click that and another window should pop up. In the new window, there should be a setting for palm rejection, if your laptop supports it. What palm rejection does is disable the touchpad while the keyboard is being used to eliminate the cursor jumping around all over the screen. Turn that on, and hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Thanks for the rapid reply and recommendations.
My laptop has a touchscreen. Looking into the control panel I found the "Hardware and Support'

The only selection similar is 'Pen and Touch' and, under that, there are only config items for the touch screen. Nothing for the touch pad. Any thoughts there?
